Primary School Teaching

Welcome to the pages of the Didactics of Mathematics with a focus on primary school teaching

Research orientation and fields of work

The team is involved in empirical research into mathematical teaching and learning processes. To this end, we examine everyday or specifically developed learning situations, videograph them and systematically analyze the data. One of our focal points is the development of theory on mathematical learning and teaching. This results in constructive points of reference for the development and design of learning environments for schools and universities.

1. Visual aids and objects in primary school mathematics lessons

  • Conditions for learning mathematics with visual aids
  • Calculating with objects - sociology of objects

2. Language and mathematics

  • Reasoning and arguing in mathematics lessons
  • Multilingualism as a resource for learning mathematics
  • Bilingual teaching-learning processes

3. Heterogeneity

  • Inclusive learning settings: learning together from mathematical difficulties to potentials
  • Understanding concepts in primary and lower secondary level

4. Learning and teaching with digital media

  • DigiMal: Digital teacher training at the university
  • Teaching-learning processes with digital media in mathematics lessons
  • Learning with digital whiteboards
